The slabs feature strictly religious iconographic repertoire, organized into separate fields, with figurative and ornamental motifs executed with chisels and burins, with the probable use of secondary punches for the background fields. The nature and sequence of the subjects require in-depth exegetical and iconographic analysis for a correct theological and liturgical interpretation.
At the top of the roof is a gilded bronze "Apical Sail," crafted using openwork and engraved with Gothic motifs. This element serves as a decorative crowning element, in keeping with the French production of central and northern Italy in the late 13th century.
The lid hinges on two large external hinges, distinctive in their sculptural and decorative style. On the front is a simple but richly ornamented locking device: presumably a lid retaining plate with a possible housing for a latch or metal clasp, consistent with the construction practice of Gothic reliquaries.
The state of preservation is overall good: the wooden structure appears stable, while the metal plates show wear consistent with age, without obvious structural damage.
