Gunpowder flask, Landsknechts, Germany, circa 1580

Gunpowder flask "Powder Flask" or "Pulverflasche", made in Nurberg (Germany) circa 1580.

The gunpowder flask, trapezoidal in shape, is made of oak wood and covered with its original tarred canvas, while the supports that cover almost its entire surface are made of forged iron like the belt attachment. Very probably it belonged to a Landsknecht Archibusier/Musketeer soldier, in fact in the central plaque completely carved and embossed in relief there is depicted a character with the identical physiognomy already found in many paintings and prints of the time, which leads us unequivocally to the case in point of the ancient mercenary soldiers enlisted by the German Legions of the Holy Roman Empire, namely the Landsknecht Arquebusiers/Musketeers.

The spring mechanism of the powder nozzle works perfectly and its ornament consisting of a cord with its original silk and wool tassel is still present.

The condition is excellent with its beautiful and original patina.

Its measurements are: Height 25 cm; Width 21cm; Thickness 5 cm.
