Doppelfernrohr 8x45 (coated), Hensoldt Optik Herborn, W.T. A.G., 1939

Doppelfernrohr8x45, made by Hensoldt Optik in Herborn in 1939.
It is very likely that this fledgling company, which since its establishment concentrated its production exclusively on military orders, wanted to make significant innovations aimed at improving some of the aspects found up to then, on most of the known optical productions.
In fact, this binoculars use an innovative collimation system consisting of 4 screws (grains) placed externally on each side of the prisms that move the prisms horizontally in order to easily find collimation even from fully assembled binoculars.
In addition, each eyepiece is equipped with a mechanical device, found exclusively on this model, which allows the fine-tuning of the focal length with ease and precision. Another important aspect of these binoculars is the construction of its structure for which some particular alloys have been used which give it a weight of only 650 grams.
This feature was aimed at obtaining extremely handy binoculars and allowed observation even for a long time without getting tired. On the left plate there is the manufacturer's trademark "Hensoldt Optik, Herborn", while on the right ocular plate, in addition to the information concerning the 8x45 magnifications, there are some letters whose meaning is not known at present. Another important information, still present on the right plate, is the code Nr.X which suggests a targeted and limited production.
The four-digit serial number No. 6XXX most likely traces it back to one of the binoculars produced in the first series.
The binoculars are perfectly collimated and the vision is good and clear. The lenses are equipped with a blue anti-reflective treatment (Trasparentbelag). This system was developed and patented on November 1, 1935 by Aleksander Smakula, a member of the Zeiss staff in Jena since 1934.
All the mechanisms present work perfectly and the focus is precise and regular.
