Doppelfernrohr M.8/12 Z Zeiss Karoly Györ 15x60 Austro-Hungaric Empire K.U.K., 1916

Doppelfernrohr 15x60 produced by Zeiss Karoly in 1916, in only 250 examples, in the "Györ" factory (Hungary), for the Austro-Hungarian K.u.K. army.(Kaiserlich und Königliche, meaning "Imperial and Royal"). On the left eyepiece plate there is the Zeiss Karoly Györ brand, on the right "M.8/12 Z - 15 fach mit Skala Doppelfernrohr N.553271", while on the plate in the center of the eyepieces, both the brand with Imperial Eagle (K.u.K.), which dates 14.7.16 to indicate military acceptance.

The remarkable sturdiness of construction, the "15x60" magnifications suitable for observing and aiming at targets placed at long distances, the integration of a micrometric bubble mechanism placed on the right tube and of a micrometric mechanism for the "elevation", places these binoculars in a "Mountain Artillery" department, a fact also due to the presence of an adjustable reticle via a lever placed on the right eyepiece which was used to detect and indicate measurements for artillery shooting.

All mechanisms work perfectly, the view is clear and collimated. There is its original rain cover/sunshade. The state of conservation is excellent.

Zeiss Karoly Györ was a small factory located in Györ, a town in the north of Hungary, which produced optics and precision instruments exclusively for the Austro-Hungarian empire.
