Binoculars (Jumelles) S 12x90, produced by S.R.P.I. (Societè de Recherche et de Perfectionnement Industrielle), Puteaux in 1945 for the French National Navy.
The mighty structure and large dimensions of these binoculars, made entirely of watertight solid marine bronze, lead us to hypothesize that it may have been used in the observation posts adjacent to the "firing directions" of the large-caliber artillery present on heavy cruisers. or Battleships. It was also used in traffic light and signaling stations.
Certain news based on its precise use, however, we do not know, also because this model was produced at the end of the Second World War in a limited number, it is assumed no more than 100 specimens as we are aware of other same binoculars in private collections and museums which all have freshmen below the number 100.
The binoculars are in excellent condition, perfectly collimated and the vision is unmatched.
Its dimensions are 47x27x16 and the weight is 21 kg which, together with its original and sturdy wooden box, reaches a total of 32 kg.
Unlike its 20x90 "brother" where you can adjust the focus (also produced by S.R.P.I.), this 12x90 model has fixed focus, a feature that is also found on German binoculars from U-Boat, called U.D.F. 7x50.
