Flare Gun, Signal and Light Double-Barreled Model - SLD - Kriegsmarine, 1943

German double barrel flare pistol or Signal und Leucht Doppelschussmodel "SLD", produced in 1943 by "Lieferungsgemeinschaft Westthuringer Werkzueg und Metallwarenfabriken GmbH", based in Schmalkden - Thuringia, coded name "EEU".

This double-barreled flare gun, made of aluminum and steel alloy, is equipped with a selector which allowed to fire illuminating rockets individually both with the left barrel, with the right, or with both at the same time according to the most appropriate need of the moment.
This model was used on Ships and U-boats of the Kriegsmarine (German War Navy) as reported by the acceptance stamp "M III/3" with eagle above; furthermore there is the encrypted name of the producer "EEU" and the serial number 3xx, which establishes its production in the first months of 1943. The rods are correctly stamped with the number 4 inside a circle and Eagle above.
The manufacturer, "Lieferungsgemeinschaft Westthuringer Werkzueg und Metallwarenfabriken GmbH" (EEU) produced about 6000 examples of this model of flare gun in aluminum alloy and steel before the production ceased, but the vast majority of them have been lost at sea together with ships, U-boats and their crews, a reason why they are considered very rare.
This specimen is in excellent condition, retains 98% of its original anodized finish and the wooden parts are flawless.
