Silver Cutlery Box, Gift to Benito Mussolini, Homage from the Bologna Shooting Range, 1935

Silver Cutlery Box, Gift to Benito Mussolini, Homage from the Bologna Shooting Range, 1935

A large box containing three pieces of cutlery (spoon, fork, and knife) in solid silver, donated to His Excellency Benito Mussolini, Prime Minister, by the Bologna Section of the National Shooting Club, on the occasion of the 30th World Shooting Championship held in Rome at the Farnesina Range in September 1935, in commemoration of Law No. 479 of April 17, 1930, as detailed on the box. This law, together with the subsequent Royal Decree No. 2051 of November 21, 1932, significantly reformed the national shooting club system, abolishing the elective system of offices and introducing the appointment of club officials by the Ministry of War.

Although Law No. 950 of June 4, 1934, also known as the "Reform of the Law on National Target Shooting," amended the previous law (April 17, 1930, no. 479) and was later amended by Royal Decree Law no. 2430 of December 16, 1935. The Board of Directors of the Bologna Target Shooting Association wanted to pay homage to His Excellency Benito Mussilini in recognition of the first truly groundbreaking reform, which drastically changed the "National Target Shooting" system. Furthermore, the 30th edition of the 1935 World Target Shooting Championships, held in Rome, was the first opportunity for the Bologna Board of Directors to present this box to the Duce. Unlike previous and subsequent editions, the Duce attended the inaugural opening.
