The T.Z.F. 4/38 (Turm-Zielfernrohr 4/38), produced by E. Leitz Wetzlar, is a complex monocular telescopic sight designed for aiming the guns mounted on Panzer II light tanks, particularly the Ausf. a–C and Ausf. F versions. The device offers a fixed magnification of 2.5x and a 25° field of view, ensuring an effective balance between target acquisition capability and visual control of the operational area surrounding the engaged target.
The optic was used on Panzer II light tanks equipped with the 2 cm KwK 30 automatic cannon. The initial version was installed on the Panzer II Ausf. a–C, while the T.Z.F. 4/36 and T.Z.F. 4/38 variants were adopted on the Panzer II Ausf. F, in line with the vehicle's technical upgrades.
The aiming reticle, initially graduated up to 800 meters, was later updated (starting in 1938) with a scale extended to 1,200 meters, allowing for more effective range estimation and improved ballistic compensation.
The optic was used for both the 2 cm KwK 30 automatic cannon and the coaxial MG 34 machine gun, ensuring versatility of use.
The view is clear, without significant distortion, with fully functional adjustment mechanisms.
